Severe Weather Policies
Game Cancellations
Per MASC Rules notice of game cancellation will be posted on the MASC web site by 9:00AM on the day of regular season play. After 9:00AM only the referee(s) at the field may cancel/abandon a game.
Referee Responsibility
After 9:00AM, the referee is responsible for determining if it is safe to play. The referee may consult with coaches at his discretion, but the decision to possibly seek shelter and resume play upon the weather improving or to close a field and abandon play rests solely with the referee.
The referee must submit a complete game report detailing any weather related actions.
Coach Responsibility
Coaches are responsible for the safety of their players. If the coach disagrees with the referee's decision to continue play, he may order his team to retire. The referee will file a game report indicating such a decision. The MASC Referee Coordinator and Division Director will determine the final disposition of the game. Until such a determination is made the game will be recorded as a forfeit.
The coach is never to argue with the referee.
If the referee decides to abandon the game, the coach must accept and support the referee's decision.
The safety of all involved is paramount. If the coach believes that the conditions are dangerous, then he must in a civil/calm way inform the referee of his concerns. If the referee still decides to continue, then the coach should retire his team. Avoiding a possible forfeit is not a reason to endanger anyone.
